If you’re not sure what to expect, here is some helpful info.
Every one of us was once brand new, walking through the front door of Dharmachakra Kadampa Buddhist Center for the first time. It’s understandable that you may be a bit nervous or not know what to expect. Below are some simple tips and info that may help. Feel welcome to contact us with any questions.
Drop-in weekly class
Weekly classes, suitable for beginners.
Here’s what happens
Most classes start with a introduction and a short guided breathing meditation. This is followed by a teaching on a particular topic and a second meditation, based on that topic. Relax and enjoy!
Feel free to take notes
This can help you remember some key points. After class, there is often an opportunity to ask questions.
There is no formal wear
Come comfortable. We remove our shoes before entering the meditation room. You are welcome to sit in a chair or on a floor cushion. It is completely your choice.
Retreats + Special Events
Retreats & events, held on weekends, contain multiple sessions a day, with breaks between them, and are beginner friendly.
Chanted Prayers
Some classes include prayers. Join along if you wish (prayer booklets provided) or simply listen. Stand alone chanted prayer sessions are also held regularly at our center.

Someone will greet you
If you haven’t registered online, you can do so when you arrive. There is an assistant or ‘host’ for each class to help out. The host will answer any of your questions and help get you orientated.
'Gompa' is another name for a Buddhist meditation room, where teachings and meditations are enjoyed
This is a peaceful, meditative space. Before you enter the gompa, please remove your shoes. You are welcome to sit in a chair or on a floor cushion. The most important thing is be comfortable.
Some tips to help you enjoy meditation and class
Tend to get chilly? Bring a scarf or small blanket. Okay to bring a sealed water bottle. Tuck a small notebook and pen in case you’d like to take notes. Pick up some publicity to remind you of upcoming events.
