The Teacher Training Program (TTP) is designed for people who wish to train as authentic Dharma Teachers or simply engage with Buddha’s teachings in the deepest possible manner. In addition to studying specified texts of Sutra and Tantra, the student is required to complete several meditation retreats. Through a continuing commitment to the program of study, meditation, discussion, and retreat, we can gain deep experience of Buddha’s teachings, establish a strong meditation practice, and become a qualified teacher in our own right.
The Teacher Training Program is taught by Kadampa Teacher Mike Racadio, our Teacher at the Dharmachakra Buddhist Center. Participation in the class requires permission of the Teacher. If you are interested in the Program, please email email@example.com
What is the structure?
Students sign up to complete the books and undertake to attend every class, to learn the material, and to take a test at regular intervals. Class meets every Sunday from 11:45 am to 3:30 pm. There is also a commitment to participate in chanted prayer sessions at the Center (such as Offering to the Spiritual Guide, Tara Prayers, or Heart Jewel). Generally the TTP students take turns putting up the shrine offerings and setting up the meditation room before class. In this way we learn about the rituals associated with Buddhist practice.
What happens at a class?
Prior to class, students study an assigned portion of the text, usually a few pages long, and try to memorize the essential points. The class begins with chanted prayers and guided meditation. The teacher then reads from the book while giving commentary to the text. Afterwards the students divide into pairs to discuss the section. The teacher and students then decide together on how to practice during the week.
